Benevolent LSA
From the very beginning every child at Lakshmipat Singhania Academy(LSA) is taught to be kind to others. Kindness is synonymous to every LSA-ite. During the tenure of school life, every child here is involved with more than one act of kindness which they continue even after they have successfully passed out of the school.
Making Slum Children Happy
THE REAL SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS
I have been running an NGO-apni almari for the past 1.5 years. I regularly conduct weekly clothes donation drives of preloved items through it. I also celebrate certain festivals like Children's day, Christmas, and Diwali with them. We play games together, dance and I also distribute new things during festivals.
For my mass media project I approached the children of the Chetla slum to get to know more about their daily routine. They were more than happy to help me out and provide me with relevant information. So in order to thank them I organized a Christmas party for them and they enjoyed it a lot. I distributed cupcakes, decorated trees and distributed gifts and candies.
Charity Carnival
The English lesson on Steven Spielberg spurred the students of class 7B of Lakshmipat Singhania Academy to give back a little love to the society. They were inspired by the philanthropic streak in Spielberg when as a child he had raised funds for the underprivileged. The students set out on a similar journey and decided to organise a carnival of handicrafts and food stalls and donate the proceeds to charity. With this noble intention in mind, they quickly chalked out a plan of action and distributed the work under the able guidance of their HRT, Sunitha R Dey. Each student was either making a handicraft item or was putting up a food stall. Handicrafts items ranged from bookmarks, keychains, pen stands, bracelets or wristlets. Every item was hand-made, a symbol of love and the hard labour they put in for a noble cause. It was decided that they would display these items for sale on Children’s Day in the corridor during break time. They even made coupons so as to not deal with cash directly. A few teachers along with their HRT helped them to sell the coupons to the students of all sections of classes 6 and 7 were invited in advance. It was a huge success as all the items were sold out instantly. Everyone enjoyed the food items too. There was papri chaat, cakes, biscuit with toppings, wai wai bhel and mango juice. The class raised a fund of Rs 6100 from this innovative venture! They were not only appreciated by their teachers, but also inspired a whole lot of students of other classes to follow suit. Such a venture would not have been possible without the support of the parents and the school management. It was a wonderful experience for everyone. Much to the delight of every student, blankets were bought from the raised funds and donated to Future Hope. It was a win-win situation for all.

Supporting Local Artisans
Indian artisans were highly regarded and rewarded until the outbreak of 19th century industrialization. Technological advancements is a major reason behind the reduction of handcrafted products into machine made products that cost considerably less as compared to the former, therefore contributing to the steady decline of the Indian handicrafts industry.
Indian handicrafts and traditional crafts showcase the rich heritage and true culture of our nation. It takes a lot of time, effort, and patience to make a single product. It is very disheartening to see the art and the artisans most often do not get the attention they deserve. Machine made products have completely taken over the industry as a whole.
This topic was chosen as an initiative to promote Indian Handicrafts. They are a pride for our nation. It is an attempt to make them feel valued. The smiles on their faces on hearing the word ‘interview’ was worth seeing!
